Ingredients

20 oz. walnuts, finely chopped
6 zwieback toasts, crushed (optional)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 pound filo
1 pound butter
syrup (low boil for 15 minutes)
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
A few drops of lemon juice
CHOCOLATE VARIATION: add 6 oz. semi-sweet mini chips to nut mixture.

Directions

Butter a 9 X 13 pan. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Place 6 fila at the bottom of the pan, brushing each with butter. Spread some nut mixture. Place 2 more fila over the mixture, buttering as you go. Add more nut mixture, then two more fila, always buttering. Repeat this process until the nut mixture is gone. Finally, 6 fila on top, again brushing each leaf.

Before baking, cut filo through to outline the pieces (12-15). Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, but check at 35 - 40 minutes; you'll want a perfect golden brown.

As baklava cools, add the (cooled down) syrup.
